On our last visit to Rawduck in Hackney, we indulged in the incredible five-course Christmas dinner menu - leaving us incredibly full and desperate to return for another slice of the action.
In anticipation of an afternoon spent browsing Columbia Road flower market, we couldn't wait for brunch at Rawduck this weekend. We arrived around midday without a reservation and although the restaurant was packed, there was just enough space to squeeze us onto one of the long communal dining tables.
Before we'd even had a chance to browse the food menu, the drinks caught our eye - particularly a thick almond & fig smoothie and homemade kombucha. Both were delicious. Now on to the food: with a focus on simple seasonal food inspired by the Mediterranean, standout brunch dishes included the Beirut Breakfast (with sweet dukka & labneh), Sunny Fried Eggs (with coconut rice & the best chilli samba we've ever eaten) and Tarka Dahl (with a charred naan & poached egg).
The food was the obvious highlight but attentive (not pushy) staff and the ultra relaxed dining atmosphere made it a hugely enjoyable place for a laid back brunch with friends. It's the sort of place you want to recommend to your friends in the hope that they suggest going there on your next date together. If you did need an excuse to coerce your pals into a visit, the restaurant also hosts events so it's worth keeping an eye on their Instagram. Kombucha class anyone?!
