One of the best things about living in London is the abundance of independent restaurants, coffee shops and café's that are absolutely smashing corporate chains and big names out of the park. Even better is one right on your doorstep, enter Fields café on Clapham Common.
A new(ish) café by the people behind Milk Coffee, Fields all-day menu is available from Wednesday to Sunday and includes cracking specials (they were serving octopus and plantain - in separate dishes - when we visited) alongside house regulars like sprouted granola and Brixton sourdough with eggs/avocado/bacon etc.
There are no frills at Fields: the menu might be on the fancier side of food but the restaurant itself (wooden benches and tables with a canteen vibe) and service are very much 'what you get is what you see'. We wouldn't change a thing, though. Highlights include the smashed avocado (perfectly seasoned and ripe), the indulgent croque madame and homemade Anzac biscuits for those with a sweet tooth.
Field's a fantastic spot for a super relaxed weekend brunch or lazy lunch: expect to queue, it's more than worth the wait.
